Playlist Thursday – Refreshed for 2013

Another Thursday, another Playlist! This week, the theme is to post something old, current and to consider that is new on your playlist. For a fresh start to the new year!

Playlist Thursday Logo by the Pavement Runner

Something Old

Artist: Sally Oldfield
Title: Woman Of The Night
Side Note: The 80s! Not a song I listen to on runs necessarily but when shutting off on the couch, watching the snowflakes fall, drinking a cup of hot tea. I found this in parents CD collection by chance and think it`s “interesting” – still not sure if it`s a good interesting or not.
Quotable: “It`s dark in the street but it feels like // Heaven is all around me!”

Something Current

Artist: Maddi Jane
Title: Barricade
Side Note: I`m obsessed with this little girl. Heck, she`s just a child! And her voice is just amazing, don`t you think? Just put this onto my current go-to running playlist. (Erika, you could like this girl!)
Quotable: “So no matter how far, whatever it takes // You will make it through the day, I`m your barricade”

Something to Consider

Artist: Bill Lovelady
Title: One More Reggae For The Road
Side Note: As crazy as it sounds, I have this song in a Reggae Mix that came on during a recent run when I had my music on shuffle. Hours later I found myself humming the chorus. So much positive energy, don`t you think?
Quotable: “Gonna sing it to you before I go // Everybody!”

Playlist Thursday: Songs that Help You Zone Out

I feel honored because today`s Playlist Thursday theme was suggested by me, when I had to see that there was still no upcoming theme yesterday. I chose this, because I am still in the middle of midterm seasons as I shared yesterday and just need to get out of my routine and relax. At the same time, I will listen to these on a long run, when I want to turn my brain off and just have a background soundtrack. Thank you to the Pavement Runner for featuring the idea.

As always the rules are to post one current song, an old one and something to consider. You can enter your playlist into the catalog or view other blogger`s posts there! And as always I`d love to hear your chosen songs in the comments!

Something Old

Artist: The Beatles

Title: Let it Be

Side Note: I got to take a look through a friends CD collection last weekend and found some great oldies to listen to in my car when I get tired of listening to commercials or waiting for good songs to come up. On one of the CDs, Let it Be is song number six and it has been playing on repeat on my commute!

Quotable: “When I find myself in times of trouble”

Something Current

Artist: Loreen

Title: Euphoria

Side Note: You don`t know this song? It`s from the Eurovision song contest. I didn`t like it at first I must admit, but then I heard it on a party and after that it was stuck in my head for days. A beautiful song, I believe.

Quotable: “We are here, we are all alone in our own Universe”

Something to Consider

Artist: Adele

Title: Make You Feel My Love

Side Note: Another fabulous song and one of my favorites. Adele has a beautiful voice and to this song I can really shut down and calm myself.

Quotable: “And the whole world // is on your case // I could offer you // a warm embrace”

Playlist Thursday: Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving, the Playlist Thursday theme is “Songs that remind you to be thankful”. The rules are to post something current, something old and something to consider, as always. More details can be found on the catalog page, linked to above.

I wish you all a happy thanksgiving and hope that you get the chance to celebrate with your friends and family. Be thankful for them!

Something Old

Artist: Louis Armstrong

Title: What a Wonderful World

Side Note: This is a classic. It reminds you that all the things to be thankful for are there, right in front of you. All you have to do is open your eyes and appreciate and be thankful.

Quotable: “And I think to myself … what a wonderful world”

Something Current

Artist: Estelle

Title: Thank You

Side Note: This might not be the best fit message wise, but the title counts too, right?

Quotable: “So far apart // I just don’t know // What drove us apart in the first place”

Something to Consider

Artist: Talking Heads

Title: Thank You for Sending Me an Angel

Side Note: Another oldie, and one with a really good intro, don`t you think?

Quotable: “I, you can walk, I walk in circles ’round you  // But first show me what you can do”

Playlist Thursday: Cool Down Songs!

This week, thanks to Jenny over at Simply Be… Me, the theme for the Pavement Runner‘s Playlist Thursday is Cool Down Songs. Here is my list, I would love to hear your songs. You can also share them in the Catalog.

Something Old
Artist: Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole
Title: Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Side Note: Such a beautiful song isn`t it? Another one of my favorites and always on one of my cool down playlists.
Quotable: “And the dreams that you dreamed of, // Dreams really do come true.”
Something Current

Artist: Jason Mraz
Title: The Freedom Song
Side Note: I`m Yours is my favorite Jason Mraz song, I used to listen to it on the radio being driven to school every morning by my dad when I still lived in Washington. I absolutely love his new album so I had to include a song from there.
Quotable: “And when I feel good, I sing // And the joy it brings makes me feel good”

Something to Consider
Artist: Owl City
Title: Fireflies
Side Note: This is not one of my personal favorite songs but it was plaid in the cool down phase of a very good spinning class I went to, when our teacher asked us to close our eyes and think about our goals that we had and whether we accomplished what we wanted to.
Quotable: “You would not believe your eyes // If then million fireflies // Lit up the world”

Playlist Thursday: Halloween

For this weeks Halloween theme I have two classics and something a little different for you guys! Please share your thoughts on the songs that I used or own recommendations as I`d love to know!

Something Old:

Title: Thriller

Artist: Michael Jackson

Side Note: It`s probably the number one, isn`t it?

Quotable: Night creatures calling, the dead start to walk in their masquerade

Something New:

Title: Laura

Artist: Bat For Lashes

Side Note: I had a really hard time coming up with something current for this theme. I asked Christine for help who advised me to look into the Bat for Lashes album as well the Florence and the Machine one. The song I picked is not really a spooky Halloween one and there might be more appropriate options for the theme but it`s about leaving something behind, a person or a character, and I think it fits the idea. What is your opinion?

Quotable: “And in this horror show // I’ve got to tell you so”

Something to Consider:

Title: The Time Warp

Artist: The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Side Note: Another classic, as I said. It`s a great song. I wish the singing was a little “clearer” but of course it is supposed to be this way. Probably also a song that will appear on multiple playlists today!

Quotable: “But it’s the pelvic thrust // That really drives you insane.”

Playlist Thursday: Songs That Make You Wanna Dance

For Playlist Thursday the theme is “Songs That Make You Wanna Dance” this week. There are lots of songs that make me want to dance when I run. I feel like they are the ones that motivate me most when I`m in a rut.

Something Old

Artist: Corona
Title: Rhythm of the Night
Side Note: It`s a classic, isn`t it? Dance music was always good.
Quotable: “Take me to turn to, and babe I`ll make you stay”

Something Current

Artist: Flo Rida
Title: Good Feeling
Side Note: Ever since the K&H Half Marathon, where this song was the back drop to the warm-up session I have had and loved it on my playlist.
Quotable: “I got power”

Something to Consider

Artist: Village People
Title: Y.M.C.A.
Side Note: I remember it faintly, one day on a class trip at the Hard Rock Café. Of course Y.M.C.A. was played and people were dancing on the tables!
Quotable: “Young man, get yourself of the ground”

Playlist Thursday: Who Is On My Playlist The Most?

For a bit of a change I would like to take part in the Playlist Thursday. This weeks theme is to post three songs that fit the categories below and the description:

Who is on your running playlist the most? We are creatures of habit and when we find an artist that we like, chances are they make a repeat appearance on the playlist. Let’s take a look.

The Categories

Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Feel free to list any song: old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.

Something Old

Artist: Michael Jackson

Title: Smooth Criminal

Sidenote: I just recently downloaded the This Is It Album from iTunes but it has been a part of my playlist ever since. Some of his songs now appear in most of my runs.

Quotable: “Sounding Heartbeats – Intimidations”

Something Current

Artist: Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa

Title: Payphone

Sidenote: Not a particular favorite but most of the songs of my playlist are a little older than 2011. But I just heard this on the radio so I thought I`d add it.

Quotable: “You say it`s too late to make it // But is it too late to try?”

Something to Consider

Artist: Dionne Amaral

Title: Toda la Noche en la Calle

Sidenote: A friend of mine once forgot her Amaral CD at my home so I listened to some of the songs and this one just stuck.
